About me
Raised by Argentine parents in a small town in Vermont, Michael Bonfigli's interest in Photography and Latin America culture began with a family trip to Buenos Aires when he was 10. Michael was drawn to both the intensity of life in Buenos Aires and his Uncle’s own photographs of the area.
After studying in Barcelona during college, Michael joined the Peace Corps to work with the Miskito Indians on the Northern Coast of Honduras. It was there that he became specifically interested in documentary photography. After the Peace Corps, he received a masters in education at Indiana University; however, photography remained a constant pursuit. In 1997, Michael decided to pursue photography as a career.
Michael’s personal work has continued to focus on Latin American culture. Michael is currently working on a long term project in the Miskito Coast region of Honduras exploring the issues revolving the lobster diver trade and the economic significance it has on the region.
Michael lives in Washington, DC.
